what brakes would i need for mk1 with 1.8t engine with about 200bhp? what parts would be needed thanks?

i think people use brakes from a g60  :dontknow: but there is a thread on here somewhere about using brakes from a vauxhall cavalier or astra might be the cheapest way. failing that you could go for some huge 4 pot calipers but might need big wheels for clearence  :wink:

If I had that dilemma I'd be tempted to do the following:

either

1. 256mm discs up front (needs 14" wheels to fit under), with some uprated discs and pads; leave the rears standard drums

or

2. 280mm discs up front (needs 15" wheels), rear disc conversion.

I'm not sure, but I'd have thought that with a significant change like a 20vT conversion, your insurance company might insist on an engineer's report, and they'd report back with their own thoughts on it. You don't need to go too mad or exotic on the brakes, because its still a light car.

Mine has G60's up front, standard drums on back also MK2 16v master cylinder and servo

Stops well enough running 208bhp

I'm going 280 G60 discs and calipers using my own caliper brakets,



I can sell you a set of Brakets for ?75 to your door.

8v gti brakes on mine cough :oops:  :oops: and a very well toned right leg

i will be using a autocavan pedal box a master cylinder then the biggest calpipers i can find :lol:  :lol:

and a parachute and anchor

:lol: I'm running standard discs, mintex pads up front, standard rear drums with new wedge adjusters. 16Valve master cylinder and decnt DOT5 bake fluid. Stops fine and has done for the past 10 yeras like this  :lol:
Brkae fade gets a bit extreme though  :roll:  :lol:
