Brake light switch

Hey chaps, basically ive just finished upgrading my master cylinder and servo. My new master cylinder only has 2 outlets so ive had to "T" piece the lines togethere and connect them to the servo. Now only prob is as my golfs pre 84 it uses the brake switchs at the master cylinder.I read in an old Golf plus that you can get round adding more "T"pieces by changing the pedal box and steering column that accomodates the switch. This is suppose to be pretty time consuming and expensive though and i wouldnt want to go down that route. Is there any way of modding my original set up to take this switch?Or do you think i should just add more "T"pieces in my lines? Its just gonna be a real mess if i do.

You'd only have to add 1 more T piece and line, and it would have been trivially easy if you'd done it at the same time as the others. Messy - its under the bonnet and the bonnet isn't transparent? Could probably be made reasonably neat anyway.

Yeah i suppose i could wire the switches together and only add one more.I know its under the bonnet but i was trying to keep it clean and tidy.Oh well, maybe ill just make up some custom braided lines in a bit to tidy that up,i can live with mess for a bit! :dontknow:

like you say you have 2 options; 1) add another T piece, just becareful not to make a trap for air,

2) get a switch from a later car and then attach to the the column inline with the brake pedal. - this is what I have done, mines held in place with zip ties untill I can come up witha  better fix, but it works ok and means the brake lights come on as soon as I move the pedal.

yeah thats another thing i was worried about, with more breaks and gaps in the pipe theres more chance of something going wrong.I like the sound of ur idea though, basically what i wanted to try.Any chance of a pic?Where did you get your switch from?

try and get a switch from an older vag car, similar sort of era to the series 1 golf i.e. mid to late 70s.

i used an audi 80 pedal switch, because it had a thread on it, so i simply drilled the hole, and put a nut on the other side, now it works perfectly. i looked on other cars like mk2 golfs and passats etc but it has a funny groove/notch it locks in to place on, so just search cars at the scrayard for ones that attach by threading themselves in, not twisting in if you get my drift.

then the 2 wires in the engine bay can have the plugs cut off them, reroute them under the dash, and connect up with some spades, et voila, brake lights with lots of brake port outlets on the MC

hope that helps
JJ

That sounds awesome, cheers guys.Found on on ebay already….

Is this the same as yours? The switchy bit doesnt look that long, like youd have to fully depress the brake to get it to come on?

Scirocco switch worked just fine for me. Fit right into the pedal assembly and only had to run the two wires back into the car and hook them up.

Doing something that I hate to do, assuming anything, I will guess your ride is right hand drive. The part number for that model will be 322 945 515 and yes they are still sold as they are used in many cars. Your pedal assembly is different from mine unless it is automatic, then close to the same, but it should still work-out just the same. There should already be a odd shaped hole, in line with the brake pedal arm, for the switch to push into and then turn to lock in place.

Sorry I should have said. you are correct mine is a rhd.

Ill have a look tonight and see if the hole is there already for the switch, but I dont think it is as that switch looks kind of like the one I already have,,
