Box's to fit the kr engine

I have a G reg corrado with a 1.8 16v KR engine with cable selector , im putting the engine in my mk1 golf which was a 1.8 8v big block auto , i am going to use a manuel box and was thinking of using the KR box but its cable shiter not rod , what can i do about this or what rod box's fit ? any help would be great , :)

I stand to be corrected , but , the box is less of an issue as the clutch , am pretty sure the 8v clutch can go on the kr crank which means any 020 mk1 & mk2 (and others) 8v boxes can be used ,the 16v has more splines on the box input shaft & friction plate. The only other thing to watch is the size of inner cv's and drive flanges , most are 90mm on the mk1 and 100mm flanged shafts to fit tend to be overpriced , cheaper to change the drive flanges

Right so i could fit a 8v rod connector box with an 8v flywheel and clutch ? so i cant use my 16v kr box as its cable selector ? is that right :D

you could fit the cable box if you wanted, and tbh it would be the same amount of effort as converting your car to rod shift since its an automatic currently. does the steering rack have the manual brackets on? if not thats another thing you would have to change if going rod shift, but not if you go cable shift.

the main headache with cable shift box is getting the clutch working, either you have to mod the bulkhead and pedal to accept a hydro clutch master cylinder, or find a SEAT abf/TDI cable conversion kit

Make sure you get the box with 100mm driveshaft cups as well(02A and some 02J) my 02J was 108mm and had a mare sorting 100mm cups

corrado will be 100mm flanges, its only later mk4 era vags that got the 108

Well i have everything i need for rod , steering rack , rod selector , gearbox , shafts .
I just wanted to know how easy it it to just keep my cable kr box on and change the selector , because i cant see how i could fit the corrado selector into mine would i need to redrill any holes in the car to bolt the cable selector down . ?

i have just come across a pic of some one running a kr cable box with a mk4 gear selector obviously cable with brackets adapted to fit , if so i also have all this i cold use , could that be another option ?

mk4 selector is as much work as the corrado type, but it is a better unit to fit so use one if you have the choice. its up to you really, either use mk1 rod change stuff for a direct fit option, or cable shift with more effort
