hi there im new to this forum game!,just bought an 83 mk1 gti and the rear drivers side arch is very rusty will probably need cutting out and replacing,also surface rust around the after market sunroof and other little bits of surface rust on the car, if anyone has had these same problems and has any advice for me or guide prices/good specialists to carry out the work and also respray th car id be very gratefull cheers.

Welcome Kirtons, probably 90% of MK1 owners have had the same to some extent.
If you get a garage to do it well you will easily lose ?500+ I guess? - depending how bad it all is.
Have you thought of buying a cheap MIG welder and doing it yourself?

I agree with Hairy. I you have the time and space do it yourself. I have seen the end results from both perspectives and if my MIG welder had not been stolen and if I had enough work space I would always opt to do it it myself. Garages are not brutal enough with rust removal unless you stand over them like an expectant father in a maternity ward. Do the cutting out welding and rough filling yourself and pay for finishing.
