Bleeding my brakes?? Frustrated!!
I have a 1983 mk1 golf GTI. Its the same old story the brakes are a bit scary! I want to know how to bleed the brakes so I can gage how bad they are once i have bled them and put new fluid in them.
I bought the car already fitted with the rear disk conversion.
I dont know if its had any other upgrades, Servo or master cylinder and although I have looked I don't really know how to tell if Servo, master cylinder has been upgraded.
Please HELP?? :dontknow:
PS,
I'm going to be remove the standard black dashboard from my golf tonight and fit a mint Brown dash with chrome trim.
My car has been given a full respray in metalic brown (that sounds nasty?) but It looks amazing though and I wouldnt have it any other way…..well maybe white but you cant beat Brown on a mk1 golf for that old school look!
Will put photos on this evening!

get a one man bleed kit from somewhere(halfords/local car place), a little rubber tube with one end blocked and a slit in it were the fluid can squeeze out but no air can get back in. put this on the bleed nipple(a nipple somewhere on the brakes with a nut at the base of it, cant think of a better way to descibe it?) and undo it half a turn then just pump the brakes(gently) until you recon all the pipes have been flushed. keep an eye on the brake fluid level as if it runs out you'll have to do the whole thing over.
or if you do it with someone else just have them sit it the car. you undo the nipple half a turn, then tell them to push there foot down then tighten nipple again tell them to bring there foot up again then repeat till pipes are air free.
its really easy once you know what your doing!
