bigger carburetor on golf mk1 1.4

hi guys got a golf mk1 1400cc do you think i will see any preformance gains if i fit a 1800cc carburetor onto my car?

Nope!

and why is that? what can i do to get a little more performance out of her, already have a branch and freeflow. was thinking of putting a 272/276 split cam

put a 1800 carb engine or 2litre on carbs in insted.

thanks guys for your advice, in this country its cheaper to buy a new car that it is to put a second hand engine in.

i can buy a second hand mazda mx6 for R30 000

we bought a 1988 golf mk1 1.6 sport for R20 000 for my fiance

What about scrappies? Surely they have engines for not too much? And doing the job DIY? I have no idea of the exchange rate, but if you used a pricey engine and had a garage do the work, it would cost 10 times as much as if you did it yourself with an engine from a scrapped car, or something.

yes that is true bud, only prob is doing the work my self. have no garage at home and no time always working. I think leave the golf as my economy car and buy that mazda mx6 thanks guys for the help...

Probably the most sensible idea - engine conversions, once done by a specialist or garage, don't make financial sense. Effectively you're swapping working components for slightly bigger working components, and a lot of them, and you're paying someone else to do that!
