Big Bumper mk1? pics...??

Ok so whats everyones opinions on this? I am seriously considering going down this route.

Here a little p/shop i did in paint..ok so it aint a good one but still you get the idea plus it took me ages so your gonna see my handy work!   IMO it gives the mk1 a more 'up to date' look. I've been down the 'old school' road and for me its boring as hell, you see every other mk1 with chrome bumps and small wheels.. and dont get me started on roof racks..

I've always loved the look of mk2's big bumper kit. I know there a kit that r&a make thats moulded for the mk1 shell so no cutting involved. Im thinking if it would be possible to add the side trims and g60 arches maybe!? or is it wishfull thinking…

i think if u like it, then go for it!! im currently in the process of spraying some big bumpers for my mk2. it seems now theyre going out of "fashion" a bit, but i like them so im having them! its each to their own - and being a bit individual is a good move. if it makes u like the look of ur car better then thats all that matters.  :D

I put big bumpers on my first ever mk1 and loved them, just a caution of beware though when you say the R&A design kit wont need cutting etc, they will no doubt be firbe glass items and I have found that all fibre glass items will require some sort of cutting and pushing about to get them to fit.

Oh and G60 arches are a big no no, I think there would be major work involed in getting them to fit and look decent. No reason why the side trims coulnt be adapted though.

So as stated, if its what you want go for it. As long as it looks nothing like that aweful photoshop  :banghead:  your laughing     (sorry, I'm crap myself with photoshop )

Dude is that your car with the smashed window??

If its out with the old skool, I'll buy any small bumpers you have for sale

I personally think big bumpers look ace on MK2 golfs but not on a MK1.

Be proud of the old school look. The MK1 golf is what it is and origianal small bumpers suit them best.

I used to own a mk1 - well I've had 2 actually - YDU 720X & SMU 420Y. Currently I drive an 98 Scotia White Mitsubishi Evolution V RS…. fancy getting another mk1 someday :D

rallye - yea the potoshop aint the best, its what my basic pc skills could manage but i think it looks half decent…if you sqwint your eyes so there basicaly shut…or shut them altogether it works!!!

soo spent an afternoon looking round the web and spotted this example.(sorry if its yours) but i think its put me off the idea. Im up for being orginal an all that but its gopnna take to much work to get it looking right an im gonna get rid of the car in about a years time.

Maybe its the rallye lights, or the side skirts or the wheels.. but i guess it just doesnt look right!?…

Theres a nice example of a mk2 round the corner from me…dark grey, alloys, clean bodywork…it looks  8) !! Its only got the small bumpers but i think it would look quality with big bumper kit and some PHat 9x16's.

Yup thats my car in the pic rallye, took that pic the night i got back from the cop station….ex birds eh.. :banghead:

Big bumpers on a Mk1 is just plain wrong. They just don't look right and are a dated style…

My opinion.

Moved this to the Mods section which I think is more appropriate   .

As to whether you go with the big bumpers, well I'm with kins on this one and think the Mk1 looks better with the smaller original items, but thats just me  :) .

If we are talking Mk2's then I definitely agree the big  bumpers improve the looks and "fill" things out a bit.

Why not just stick a clipper kit on - you can find them much cheaper and they come with the arches and everything else you need.

Not really my style (Q car addict) but if you like it then do it .Fit it ,try it if you dont like it bin it and try something else. It would be a boring world if we all drove lhasa green standard looking mark 1's
