best modifications?
Ive just bought 1.8 8v from a scirocco (not sure of the engine code)
Its got two twin 45 webers on it.
Im just wandering what modifications I can do to get the bhp up?
I dont really have a budget tbh and im in no rush. I would like to get her up to the 200 bhp mark.
Thanks

You'll be needing a different engine tbh but you can get above 150bhp with a 16v engine and not too much work to change

Mods you could do are endless, port and polish head, gas flow head, piper cams, lighten a balance various parts I.e flywheel.
Wouldn't be very cheap, is it a cross flow head or are inlet and exhaust manifold on same side, get a lot of heat soak if it's this head.

Best mod
Wish you luck, shoot for the sky (200bhp) but keep a realistic idea of what is affordable (150bhp).
Be aware, we ALL make that same mistake.
2 tintops.
3 cabbies, 1 with G60 power, just for fun.
Volvo T5, just for fun.
3.1Ltr V6 Dutton Leggera, just for fun.
Renault 5 GT Turbo, just a money pit!
Several boring cars, just no fun!

NA 8v never
8v with cam, head work and 2l bottom end will get you 150bhp
16v a lot of money to get there, 2l bottom end, cams, porting/polishing other bits needed
G60, could be cheap but adds up if you want peace of mind on the conversion
1.8T same as G60, engines are cheap enough these days but the extras add up, intercooler, pipe work, mounts etc

Modifications
Newman 288 cams, lighter flywheel, engine components balanced, full engine rebuild, ported/polished cyl head, head rebuilt fully, everything port matched, chipped ECU, 4-2-1 manifold/no cat/ss centre and back box, k&n cone filter with cold air feed, 020 rebuilt gearbox, upgraded black diamond clutch kit, better ignition leads blah blah blah. It's even been to TSR Performance. It still probs isn't over 175-180bhp ;-( Never the less it is still a beast of a car and goes like F**k!!
Go for the 1.8 20v Turbo 225BHP engine and your already there ! I wish I'd have saved myself the hassle or just stuck with the standard 1.8 8v DX. Would have made my bank balance more appealing to females!

Maybe a 4 branch mainifold will help breathing too.
With the carbs you need to make sure you have the correct type of fuel pump, filter and pressure regulator, carbs need a good flow of fuel @ low pressure, typically 3 - 4 psi
BHP is all pub talk, what you need to look at is the torque figure of the engine and where in the rev range this is coming in, i think a healthy mid range is the best way!
Projekt Frustration :
White 1991 Clipper. Lowered over polished zender rims, Single 40 dellorto on lynx manifold, kent cam, full stainless 'zorst / manifold, powerflex bushed and braced. Not the fastest car, but sounds super nice!
Still going after 12 years… never said it was a quick fix! Time is not my friend.
