Your title says carbs and your post says throttle bodies - very different, which ones you want to use?

I was a bit confused over your use of throttle body too. Throttle bodies have the throttle flap and sometimes, more often than not, an injector port.

Hell No!

Carbs are simpler - They mechanically control the amount of fuel being allowed to mix with the airflow. This is the only tricky bit about adding Bike carbs. The standard needles will be no good and will probably need drilling out - VERY PRECISELY!

Throttle bodies however, only control airflow. You need a seperate ECU controlled fuel injection system which takes input from a TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) and crank sensor to determine how much fuel to inject.

The difference?
Carbs are easy and cheap to install. Bike carbs on EBAY are dead cheap - I got a set for ?1.
Throttle bodies set-up could cost anything from ?250 to ?2000 and require much greater knowledge and work to set up!

My advice - Do some more research… Don't be put off though, as it is more than possible for either option.
Bogg Brothers are specialists in this and offer a drive in drive out conversion, or, there is actually a set of carbs for sale on a custom manifold for sale in the for sale section at the moment - Don't know why Simon decided to sell though?!?!?

There's a thread on either here, clubgti or clubpolo about his conversion. He had a bad experience with Bogg Brothers and I think he's a bit pissed off about it.

I understand where you're going with the ecu now. Do you want to be able to change the advance curve or will you be happy with whatever is available from the VW range?

Simons are for sale as per my previous post…

They are carbs, not throttle bodies.

You really need to do some more research!

Just sticking carbs on with your current distributor supplying the spark will work, though you might not be getting the best from them.

To get optimum performance you need to be able to adjust the ignition advance curve dependant on RPM and Load on the engine. This is where "ECU's" come in to play with carbs. You could go with expensive items like Emerald, or you could go DIY with Megajolt and build your own ECU which you can programm via a PC. These control the point at which the ignition sparks in relation to the piston.
It is quite technical and needs additional mods such as crank sensor and MAP sensor in the inlet manifold or TPS switch on the carbs, but everyone who has successfully completed this say it is well worth it.

yup mine are for sale, as said i have had a bad experience with bogg brothers and i refuse to deal with them, i also refuse to have any part of there work on my vehicle, at the mo im going back to the standerd gt lump, running a mk2 golf (hk engine code, inlet manifold and carb) as i am hopeing to get it sprayed up whilst saving for my other engine to either put in my tintop, or hopefully next sumer a cabbi.

simon

i always have the last laugh ;)
