Bee sting aerials.

I know a lot of the people on here are originalists, but i was wondering what the general opinion on fitting a mk2 16v roof bee sting aerial( well its still vw 8) ).
My original one is broken and i need to replace it, but i like the lazy idea of not having to put it down ever night.
And i have a spare incase somebody does break the bee sting. 8)

Im on my third aerial now in two years, damn narrow lanes! and am also considering fitting a bee-sting to mine, i know most people think your mad but its whats practical for you realy, have heard about using the rear screens heater but not too sure what the reception would be like!

i havent got one at all, like the clean look you can buy an aerial that is a loop that sticks around the inside of your wind screen cant remember where i saw it will have a look about though.

The 16v aerial has an internal amp so its reception is pretty good.

GSF have both amplified @?12 & non amp @?8

Windowscreen aerials generally have worse reception  :banghead:

If Its Loud and Noisy , I'll take its picture

Expect roof leeks eventually with a bee sting.

If anyone wants one - I've got a used one and spare mast for the price of the postage

…depends how well you seal it. Dont just rely on the 'o' ring that will eventually go hard. Use flexible seam sealer aound the hole, then no worries.

My Bee sting has een on for around 10years now, and never changed it yet   .

As for roof leaks, as long as its sealed properly it WILL NOT leak, I haven;t had a leak and this was before  I stopped driving it in the rain  :)

I just wouldn't feel comfortable drilling a hole in a perfectly good roof!

 Yep, I remember when I did mine, lots of masking tape, a steady hand, a sharp drill bit, and a deep deep breath. Rook is a little flexi as well which doesn't help   Not for the fainthearted !!

will a car fail an MOT if the roof's been patched up?

I can imagine how much of a fool you'd feel cutting the sunroof hole too big…  :banghead:

whats all this about using the rear screen element as an aerial then ?
i currently have an attractive 'ripped-off' ariel and as you can imagine the reception is fairly bad. If i could get reception from the element, i'll fill the hole on the wing . . .

Buy a normal amped one and lie it under the front scuttle works a treat and you can colapse it when its on show . Sunroofs are easy just remember measure twice cut once .

Fit a webasto  but what if you cut that hole to big 8O .

What would you do if you slipped with the drill when drilling the hole for the bee-sting aerial or drilled the hole off centre…. you'd have to fit two side by side to balance it out
