BBS Bodykit

I've bought a BBS bodykit for my GTI and I've seen pictures where it seems to be fibreglassed in. Has anyone done this and, if so, how much did it cost and how long did it take? Also, were there any problems with the plastic expanding and cracking the fibreglass?

Cheers

Mike

bbs bodykit

Hi,

Having had to do all lot of refurb work on the BBS body kit on my Cabriolet, Very hard to fit well !!! I have found that yes it does have a habbit of movement over bumps etc while driving and this can lead to some crackes appearing on the frount/rear bumper sections of the kit. To counter this i made up a putty base mix of class fibers and p38 to place at intervalls between the BBs kit and origional bumpers underneath to add stability, with some success . To maintain a realy smooth seamless set of joins around the arches etc, it is worth the extra time to graduate the stablising filler to get a truly smooth finish. Good luck , its quite a job but worth the effort !!!

Mark

PS Please note that it may be slightly easier  to fit on your golf than my Cabriolet ( belived to be very rare to have !!)

Mine is completely smoothed in, including all the joints, been on the car for 6 years and only one small crack on one of the joints.

This was done when the shell was resprayed, completelly bare shell respray so price wise not sure.

the oem fitted ones hada rubber bead seal between the kit and the car,m they wernt smoothed in. a good classic car or mini restoration shop should be able to supply the type of thing you need.
