Basically i can get these calipers and carriers as well as the discs and pads, is this a direct bolt on to my mk1 gti cabby to make it 256?

i dont know about an audi but the mk2 golf 16v discs are 256 so they might fit and the golf is a strait swop its when you bigger thats when you start to need adaptors

The discs are but the calipers aren't……you need to use either Vauxhall components, or Audi calipers/carriers. I think the "Audi 80 coupe 2.6 V6" (can you confirm the model, that's not a model of Audi!), well the engine size you've quoted, is a later model from the ones that do fit (you're looking for the calipers and carriers). For info, the calipers are the same on later Mk2 Golf GTI 16V and the correct Audi.

Mk1 -> 256mm Brakes
The correct caliper and carriers need to convert your Mk1 to 256mm brakes can be found on :

Audi 80 quattro (83 to 85)
Audi 90 5-cylinder (85 to 87)
Audi Coupe 5-cylinder (85 to 88
Scirocco 16V (if you can find one !!)

Note:- Pads and Discs from the same vehicles will also be needed. >88 Mk2 16v discs and pads are also compatible with the conversion despite the calipers and carriers not being so.

The specific part numbers for this caliper carriers (if bought new from VAG are):-

Part Numbers:-
Caliper carriers - 853 615 125 (x2)
Carrier bolts - N900 689 02 (x4)
Sliding pin bolts - 321 615 141 (x4)

I'm sure the 256mm front calipers from a mk2 golf 16v were fine for this conversion - and the only troublesome part to source were the carriers (which can be found on those Audis)?

All MK2 16V Calipers were the same afaik - Girling 54.

It is just the carriers that are different.
I think that the hub to carrier bolt hole spacing is 74mm on the mk1 and 94mm on the mk2 and other Audis of the same era except the ones that Chudd mentioned.

Cheers,
Ade

The 16V calipers can't bolt onto the Mk1 hub carriers (the bolt holes are different distance apart)…..not without the Audi caliper carriers discussed above. How did you do it without using these?

yes tho but the holes that bolt the carryer to the hub are the same so you just use the carrer of a mk2 and it bolted to the hub

As I understood things, the Mk2 doesn't use a caliper carrier, the caliper bolts directly to the hub carrier. So you must have the Audi/Scirocco 16V caliper carriers (they are the same thing, see chudd's post with part numbers).
