Audi 1.9 Engine

Can anyone tell me if an Audi 80 1.9 petrol motor will fit in my Mk1 as i have been offered a dirt cheap Complete car to break.
I have already moved the R/H engine mount for the 1600 i was going to fit but would rather fit the 1900 if possible and run it on carbs.
The other option i have heard of and was going to do is use a 2.0 block with a 1.8 head, but the Audi 1.9 option would be cheaper for me.
Would i have any clearence problems with 1.9 Audi motor?
Are the engine mounts in the same place?
Would my 1600 gearbox fit to it? as the car has an auto box fitted.
Would i be better using just the head and sourcing a 2.0 block?
Any advice would be great.
Thanks.

Audi 1.9 is a 5 cylinder with code wn, wh, wj etc so itd be too long to fit transversely.
Cant help you regarding the head swap, i dont know if thatd work.
I dont have any clue if the gearbox would mount up, its not something ive ever tried….tried most everything else though! :)
Sorry i could be of more help.

Did not realise it was a five cylinder as i have not seen the car, thats a real shame.
Might still buy though as its only 20 quid.
Does anyone know if the front bake calipers will swap onto a MK1?
Thanks.

4 cylinder

I went to look at the Audi today and it has a four cylinder injected engine in it and 1.9 on the boot lid!
I think the 2.2 was the five cylinder model if i remember right.
So my question is will the engine fit in the MK1? it just looks like a big block VW engine, forgot to get the engine code though.

Could it be a 1994cc (2.0 litre)?

The 5 cylinder came in 1.9, 2.0,2.2(2144), 2.3 (was actually a 2226cc and a 2309 cc).

Starting to sound like a 2.0 litre petrol 4 cylinder to me. :)

The Audi has a 4cyl 8v Bosch injected motor with electronic ignition and the engine code is SD.
From what i can make of it i reckon it will fit in no problems, i will just have to fit the fuel pump, carbs and old dizzy etc.
Not sure if i will have bonnet clearence problems though.
Could i use the newer electronic ignition or not.
Any advice would be great.
Thanks.
