Alloys

I got myself a  set of alloys and I'm having trouble fitting them. They are 7x15 with at et of 34. Should I be getting any rubbing on the brake calipers because I thought they would fit without using spacers?

i have had this before, although they are the right offset they rub on the carrier part of the brakes.

solution, grind the carrier face flat or take em back.

If its only a few mm just use spacers.

basically they should fit but depends on the design really.

Yeah, it's an annoying one really! The alloys themselves didn't cost much and I've had the tyres fitted now so I'll have to keep them.

Looks like I need some 5mm spacers then.

you can get thinner spacers than 5mm try ebay or demon 2 weeks, it only has to clear the caliper by .1 of a mm as it cant move once its fitted, you can also get this problem with some rim types when you renew brake pads too!! as it pushes the caliper out further :banghead:

You're absolutely right, I've just got back from ECP with a set or two 3mm spacers.

I now have to make Jam Tarts with my boys and a mates kid too, it's Half-Term homework and I'm the lucky chap that's got to do it.

I've fitted the wheels with 3mm spacers and have to say they look ace!

Does anyone know where I can get hold of nuts that are a bit longer, just to make up the difference added by the spacers.

Yes! You can get them through a company called Motorsport Wheels.

I think their website is www.mswuk.com

post some piccies. they better look good or i'm going to slate em.
i've always advised that vw factory alloys seem to work better than any aftermarket jobbies. they are designed with the vw mk1/2 in mind.

I know what you mean, I was after a set of BBS wheels in 15 inch but kept being out bid. I had just been out bid on a set in SE London when I saw these and decided enough was enough, I needed tyres and I wasn't going to pay for a set to fit my old 14 inch wheels. I'll get some pics up later.

tian you can get Merc bolts that are slightly longer, same thread and bolt size, from mercs late 80`s to early 90`s, to be honest though as long as they are torqued up properly, to about 70 ft lbs i think it is? then they aint coming off anyway!

And our survey says?

Yokohama rubber is so nice, grippy as a very grippy thing with extra grips attached with a super sticky coating of extra grab contact glue.

Thanks, they're alright especially for the money. One had a new tyre fitted and they only came to ?100.00 off the bay. The three remaining tyres came to just over ?120 so all in all just ?220.00 for a full set of alloys and tyres, not bad eh?

These are nice though, don't know what lucky bugger's got these.

I am always on the hunt for BBS RM`s so if i get anymore i will shout you, if you fancied a change in the future, i got a few German contacts recently so getting the rims or bits to refurb them has got a bit easier and cheaper
