i got a Cat2 Cobra 8510 (?) fitted just a couple of weeks ago by a pro.

cost be ?70, but more importantly, you get a certificiate that some insurance companies ask for.  i.e. you need to have it professionally isntalled for insurance purposes sometimes.

if insurance isnt a problem, then like you said, it should be fairly straight forward.

Good luck buddy!

Mind you the quality of some "pro" installs leave a lot to be desired.

A tip for you bud, security wise, why not remove the door pins and fill the hole on the doors, this stops anyone from coat hangering your pins to open doors, i have done this on both mk1 and mk2 and fitted blue led to drivers door when alarm and central locking are activated.

your correct on what some people class as a pro installer. I've worked with some right cowboys who regularly damage cars and trim. My advice is leave well alone and take it to a specialist alarm install centre and request VSIB approved rdo the job. It should be sweet. Get them to fit locking at the same time as most alarms will drive 2 door motors. If you fail to adjust these properly you could look silly climbing in through the boot

fittd one in my first car, and done it well easy, the only tricky thing is hiding wires and finding holes to put wires through into the bulkhead from inside the car, but in golfs u have lots of unused grommits so should be no problem there. also my alarm bloke came out and fittd a full cat 1 to my golf, with all sensors on every door bonnet and tailgate, also he fittd the centrel door locking charged extra tenner per door for the locking which is realy good considering they are a right pain to get inline and set up :banghead:  if u do do it ur self i advise u to solder every wire and dont use crimps,

simon

i always have the last laugh ;)

Use good crimps and good crimping tools - or back up poor crimps with solder

Don't ever use scotchlocks - ever.

Get some solder lined heatshrink tubes for splicing http://www.vehicle-wir…/terms-pre/terms-pre.html "Heatseal" - bottom of page

Make a nice neat job of it too.. http://www.vehicle-wir…00/sleeving/sleeving.html
