Aftermarket fuel pump/system for K-Jet Mk1? Facet?

Hi, has anyone seen aftermarket fuel pumps (e.g. facet) on k-jet systems?

Not looking to alter k-jet, just the feed from tank to metering head.

They're a little expensive but the standard pump is fine. Never had a problem finding a new or secondhand replacement, if needs be. So I don't really see the point of "aftermarket" since it wouldn't improve performance or anything else, etc.

Except it's MOT time again soon and my whole pump/accumulator/steel pipes were all on caution last time - And I can't find an accumulator new (Old story). Throwing a quick facet and some hose at it seems sensible.

(And engine is fairly modified - It might *like* it :twisted: )

Have you tried seeking out a decent secondhand accumulator?

You know when you say "Facet", what model of facet pump do you mean, because AFAIK that's the manufacturer and they probably do loads of different products. I don't know if they do a model which would deliver a high enough fuel pressure for the K-Jet.


An alternative might be to adapt Mercedes parts for 1980-1993 era FI mercs. They used KE-Jet.

I looked for new and used accumulators a year ago or so - were thin on ground then… + I've done fuel feed system replacements before

(+ Have a facet lying around (Will get model No) )

Question is (As you said) what pressure does k-jet need/What pressure does pump supply + do I need a regulator?

seen a new accumulators on ebay this week

and second hand ones are always on there…!

The facet pump I have spare (On a Greedy but off-the-road 1380cc Mini) looks just like this one:

  I'm getting ahead of myself here: My main problem is the steel fuel pipes that are under the car just in front of the right rear wheel and their legal implications (I think there are two seperate pipes with 4 associated unions). Problem is they're wrecked - impending MOT won't go well - and I'm doing copper brake pipes right now so thinking a lot about pipe/tube/hose…   (+Goodridge braids in my GtiLootBox ready to go)

  The accumulator and pump aren't knackered but mounts are a bit knackered and components themselves look pretty corroded. *I don't know about the two fuel lines that run the length of the car - Might be knackered aswell*

  When I invent a budget @QuiffysPlace I get a big fat nonononononobadboyhinnalondon. So feeding the original fuel pump (Mounted in engine bay) from a (home made and also in engine bay) swirl pot fed by my 4.5psi facet and some stock hose seems to cut out a number of expensive components (3-4 braided fuel lines from QuiffysPlace).

  !!Could move header tank to make space - It gets in way of strut-brace anyway!!

I'll be back to bump/edit this post. The whole damn thing's driving me mad - I keep just thinking "CuteeeetChopeeeet". Google "Autograss" and you'll see where I'm coming from. Bulkheads don't get in my way - Only rules.

That pump is a solid state pump, they are low pressure pumps
for Carb's, ive been looking at my fuel system as ive done away
with carbs and going K-jet, ive got a Webber 125psi pump
for the TB kit ive got there off another car and going to make that
fit as the pressure reg is in the metering head

If its leaking, just replace the pump, accumulator and fuel lines, everyone else does.

pretty sure gsf does both the pump and accumulator new as well, bit pricey but k-jet items always are.  if  you spend a lot of time on ebay you can pick up bargains, ford, audi, saab, merc, porsch and even ferrari have used variations of k-jet over the years.

Cant recommend crazyquiff enough for fuel lines, they're very good quality and fit as per oem. even let me exchange my main lines when i changed my mind and decided to go 16v instead of 8v ;)

(I nearly went and edited my last post since it's all a bit drunk and stoned, lol..  Re-read it and it's funny tho  :mrgreen: )

I think where I am is I have to admit the car's back off the road temporarily and start removing parts. Then I'll know if relocation to somewhere mad will actually save me money… It's over ?200 already at crazyquiff for four hoses - though they do look top notch! I'll have to ring them when I'm  sure of what I need.

  So it's either:

  Aha! - So if my fuel pump has the juice (Which the facet one doesn't), it'should run since pressure reg is in metering head. Hmmm…

  Right, no more thinking till I've pulled it apart.

  ( Crazyquiff: can you do a hose to connect standard pump to fuel filter under bonnet? Not sure about return yet…)
