Advice needed, before saturday morning!

Righto then folks, my grandad owns a 1.5GLS, bugger all miles on it, but runs horribly, he has changed everything and done all he can think of to cure it, sometimes making it better, sometimes worse! It has a tendancy to do its best to die as you pull out at islands, basically at the least appropriate times! He's really losing his wrag with it, and asked me to ask on here if a mk2 Golf inlet manifold will fit on the MK1 head. I think he's thinking about simply changing the whole manifold, carb, throttle linkage everything of a MK2! So its a simple, if not long winded question, will a MK2 inlet manifold, fit a MK1 head?
He is also contemplating trying to swap the complete MK2 ignition sysetm over, if anybody has any advice or ideas in anyway, fire them over please! He keeps mentioning throwing a gallon of petrol on it!!!  8O
Hope all this can be understood, i'm writing it quickly, after another irratte phone call from him.!

Cheers Rich  :D

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Thanks for all the help chaps, i'll let him know, its had a new inline filter on for a bit, and its stay'd clean, i would of thought, with a crappy tank or filler neck, you would see it in the filter, i'll let him know what you've all said.
Cheers very much, i'll more than likely report back! Has anybody had a go at using the MK2 golf Dizzy and igintion etc?
Ta Rich

If the carb is rubber mounted its always worth checking that, also all the vacuum pipes. You should be able to tell by the plugs if its running weak or rich, it gives you a clue as to what to look for.
