advice for a newbie...

I am looking into buying a mk1 golf within the next couple of days however i need some advice on lowering/alloys.

I want it fairly low with some deep dish alloys - can i have opinions on the lowest it should be with particular alloys?

also do you guys know of any sites that sell deep dish alloys?

will i need to put wider wheels arces on it too?

thanks for your input

matt

Use the search function…

There have been many topics on Alloy width, size, offset etc and Lowering.
It is a bit of a mine field, which you should be very wary of if you don't know what you are doing!

Basically - Get the car first.
Find the wheels you like, then come back and ask if you'll have any problems fitting them…
Generally, don't go bigger than 15 inch, Keep the offset between ET35 to ET30 ([possibly ET25 depending on the Wheel) and keep the width to around 6 or 7 inches and you won't be too far out.

If you need to ask what "Offset" is, you need to do more research!

To paraphrase what's in a few threads on this forum, the answer is yes, but with a lot of work.

IMO they would look cool, but be prepared for a lot of work to make that happen.

Here's a couple of threads which may help you…

Hope this helps

16x9 - on a Mk1!!!!!!!! 8O

Youd have to cut your arches completely off and bin them!
9" wide and ET15 is going to give you some major headaches… especially on a 16" rim. You'd hardly be able to lower it at all!

16's are too large. The ride will be harsh as a sherman tank. Also don't cut your arches it is insanity to do this as if you drive the car daily - which in my opinion is also criminal especially a mk1 - they will rust in about 3.9seconds

save up for coilovers and go 14x7 deep dish - check out steffan rims on dubmeister.
