Adding a TURBO to a 1.6 GTi

how can this be done to the original 1.6l and 1.8l GTi

i know il need the following
Turbo? which one
manifold which one
downpipe?
oil return lines
intercooler
pipework
bigger gasket?

anyone ever done this and is it possible?
if so any info!

Not only is it possibly but Turbo Technics used to do a full conversion kit for this engine.

A scout around may find you a complete second hand kit.  I believe they did the kit for early Mk2 Golfs aswell which should be pretty much interchangable.

I was thinking about the same thing for mine but i decided against it .You will need to change the compression ratio to cope with the pressure of the turbo also use forged pistons , u can get manifolds custom made from a few places (places that do kit car exhausts are usually good) and the downpipe from powerflow or somewhere. you might find all the stock internals of ur standard 1.6 wont take a turbo but unless u try it u wont find out  :mrgreen: . good luck with it

stealth racing in warwickshire now do the kit as its no longer available from turbo techincs,
