ABF Turbo or 20VT?

Which will be better, turbo ABF or 20VT. Better = power x flexibility x reliability / cost.

the 20vt was designed to be turbo so reliability is better the abf is an amazing motor when turbo,d but you will loose the reliability cos things will break if not built correctly

i have a 20vt and its great fun but im going to start building an abf turbo soon

loads of cheap turbo bits on us ebay. i wouldn't say 16v turbo is less reliable than 20v turbo. mostly down to wether things are done properly or not. i'd hazard cost implications are not too far from each other. that obviously depends on how you go about it.

20vt is the cheapest option with the 16vt you will need to get lots of bits custom made like the manifolds

And the reason for abf turbo is bigger power than the 20vt can manage? Cos I doubt it will be for better fuel economy…

Ironically, the 20V head doesn't flow as well as the 16V head. This is the main reason why its possible to make more power.

no. with headwork on an abf the 20v with headwork would be quite down on flow.

I find it hard to believe that vw went to all the trouble of designing a new head that is worse than something they already had. although saying that i suppose emissions were the prime aim.
