abf into my 1.3 driver

RIght this is the conversion i want to do. I know i need the drivers engine mount moving and a gearbox mount (i think, mine is a 4speed).

What else is needed? 5 speed gear linkage (aswel as the mount moving?)

I dont really want to run it on carbs as im not a fan really so whats the next 'easiest' way to fit the abf in.

Im going to need gti fuel tank/pump aswel arent i?

Ive heard theres not many options with regards to manifolds for the abf? anyone have any recomendations for a manifold?

Exhaust, what exhaust will i need? if there is an exhaust system i can use for the time being till i save up for a proper one that would be good. would a mk1 gti exhaust do the job for now?

I know about brakes and stuff (16v MC and servo etc) so thats ok.

Just wondering what main things i need really.

Hi Danny.

Is this a standerd ABF or not?

What do you want to do with the car? Is it a daily driver?

I am busy with the same conversion.

I think its a standard ABF yes.

Its my daily.

Im getting someone to fit one but just need to know what parts i can get to help him along.

Hi Danny

You will definitely need stronger engine mounts. The standard ones wont last long.
You might need to get a smaller brake booster reservoir. I had problems with space there.
The rest will fit.
You will need a custom exhaust though.

Best of luck!!!

PS. how do i add a photo?

what gearbox are you using? if rod shift you can get an oem mount that will fit. of 02a then you need to make one or buy a conversion mount, which arnt cheap

no problems with a 9" servo and MK2 22mm master cylinder with an ABF distributor if you're running it on oem abfd managment. if running it on bike carbs or k-jet, fit kr dizzy on 180degrees out and use abf dizzy cap.

oem mounts should be ok with abf power as long as you get new ones, I used a poly front mount and new diesel gearbox mount. side ones were good 2nd hand.

at the moment i have a choice between an o2o and a o2a box.

Im not using carbs so i guess the brake things are ok.

I think the guy doing my engine is making his own mounts so may be abit cheaper.

Just not sure about the exhaust manifold and exhaust. Its coming out of a mk2 but he has a manifold that came off another abf engine that was in a mk1 but has been told it needs some modifying to get to fit but i only have a standard 1.3 exhaust so wondering if a gti exhaust would fit for the time being till i can afford to get a full system?

He did say he could swap stuff around with mk2 exhausts for now though.

Also im guessing mk1 gti brakes fit behind the 13" tarantula alloys as thats all i have at the moment :D and they will be enough for the time being, with the 16v MC and servo?

if you use the 020 gearbox you can use all std MK1/cabby/scirocco 1.5-1.8 manual 5 speed mounts they'll all fit. 02a will require custom gearbox mounts, plus you'll have to mount the cable shifter and either fit some kind of hydralic clutch pedal mech or use SEAT ABF hydro->cable adaptor.

As for zaust, mk2/3 dont fit the angles are all wrong, but you can use the manifold and make a cut n shut downpipe using top half MK2 and bottom half MK1 GTI. Then MK1 GTI system will fit. 8v manifolds are different to 16v fyi, ports are all different at the head end.

This is what my kr downpipe looked like, note kink to avoid gear linkage:

I'd aim for a slightly bigger bore than a std MK1 GTI system though, the std might be a bit restrictive for an abf. You may be ok though, I used a std MK1 GTI system on my KR though and it didnt seem to effect it in the slightest.

yeah the GTI brakes fit fine behind the tarantula alloys, oem fit after all ;)

depends which box you get, you get them with 90mm and 100mm inner flanges. if you get one with 90mm flanges you need early mk1 1.5-1.8 90mm shafts, if you get one with 100mm flanges you need late cabby/scirocco 100mm shafts
