ABF conversion ECU / immobilizer

Post

Hi all,

I am currently fitting an ABF from a SEAT ibiza into my MK1.

As its a '98 ibiza it will have an immobilizer, was wondering if I can get around this problem by buying an early mk3 ECU.

Does anyone know if this is possible or is there a lot more then a simply swap.

Thanks

That would be one way, the other being having your own de-immobilised. Why do you not want to fit the immobiliser anyway ?

I thought you had to get rid of it as I won't be using the SEAT key. So the immobilizer will stop the engine from starting.

you could always solder in an immo emulator, they work for immo 1 and 2. i'll be testing one out when i have some time

you could just tape chip to halo…
thats what ive done and tucked it away under the dash

if you can get the reader coil to fit under the ignition plastics, buy a blank mk3 key for immobiliser and get it cut to your car. swap chip over :)

good to have an immobiliser additional layer of security. though you will loose the nice mk1 key, thats the worst bit about having mk3 immobiliser in my book

if car runs now you have everything you need for the mk1 :)

its probably been deimmobilised, either that or when you look behind the fusebox you'll find the immobiliser box and the key reader, with the old key tapped to the reader coil. if so, just pull it out and keep it!

then you have 2 choices, either get a new mk3 immobiliser key cut to match your locks and fit the chip, or just tuck it up behind the dash. this depends on if the reader coil will actually fit under the mk1 ignition lock housing, iirc its pretty tight fit to the lock so im not so sure it will
