right what ages is the donor car? Im guessing its a mk3 gti?

the main issue will be that the engine mount will need moving on the rh chassis leg, its a case of remove it and flip it over - the marks are on the chassi leg where it needs re-welding - then weld it back on.

the other thing to not is that the ABF stands 15mm taller than a KR engine, so it can be very close to the bonnet, plus you will need the hot tuning conversion manifold as its height adjustable, the normal KR manifolds wont fit properly as the down pipe ends up too close to the bulk head and steering rack.

are you keeping the mk3 02A gear box??? if so you will need the 02A conversion mounts, and dont forget to remove the cable shifter from the donor car too, then you will need to either make up brackets for a hydo clutch, and convert your pedal box. or the easy way is the seat conversion bits from the abf ibiza, but again this isnt that cheap being about ?100 for the bits needed just for the clutch. plus to keep the 02A gearbox you will need drive shafts from a latter cabby, they are 100mm ends, not the earlier style 90mm ones normally fitted from 86 i think… but dont hold me to that it maybe laters. (MK2 golf onwards drive shafts will not work!)

if you go for the mk1 020 gear box you will still need the gear box, fly wheel, clutch to match the gear box (16v boxes have a larger centre spline) drive shafts to match the gear box - ie 8v box = 90mm drive shafts, 16v box = the later 100mm shafts. plus you will need the corrct clutch cable as the 1.1 uses a different clucth cable but thats an easy change - the down side is the 020 will be on its limit with 150bhp or so… much more and it will start to slip unless a uprated clutch is used, plus you will need to use a mk2 16v pressure plate as it has a higher claming force than a 8v one, as a 8v will slip with 150bhp..

fueling. - a few options.

1. get the injection system working, meaning wiring and ecus etc

2. the easy option, run the car on the K jet set up from a mk2 16v golf, this is way easier but still needs the loom really from the mk2 16v to make it work properly or some wiring adapting etc.

3. twin webbers, very basic option, but could be costly to set up on a rolling road to get the most form it in terms of jet sizes etc, but it will mean minimal wiring, the main bit being the mk2 ecu for the spark from a 16v

then you look at brakes. if its a pre 96 mk3 you are using or poss a passat too with 280mm brakes using the lucas girling G54 caliper then rob the front brakes too, as with the adaptor brackets from the caddy form they will go straight on the front of your mk1 iirc (I belive the 1.1 uses the same hub mounts as the gtis just a different caliper… please double check) all you will need is mk2 golf g60 discs, then use a mk2 16v servo and master cylinder otherise the pedal will be reeeaallllyy long and useless, (been there done that) as a abf on 1.1 brakes is asking for trouble and down right dangerous.

I hope this gives you some idea, its a good coversion but even with a donor car its not cheap by any means as other bits will need upgrading / replacing, ie dont forget to make sure the chassis is in good order, ie the suspesnion bushes, rear drums, brakes up front etc, as if any of these arent up to scratch then you will have all the go but non of the handling ti use it so you may as well have stuck with the 1.1

im sure others will ad bits I have missed too

cheers

Karl.

Dont be put off this is an easy conversion. I bought a seat toledo to do mine pre eobd management and no immobilizer in the ecu. I have retained the electronic managment because its alot easier to do it that way. the wiring is very straight forward you only need power for the ecu and power for the fuel pump the rest of the wires are for the dash clocks. I kept the cable change box and made my own mounts and used the late spec cabby driveshafts. Where abouts are you?

Anymore news on this car? I've been tackling the same ABF conversion with the cable change box and twin 40 webers etc into my 1.1 C Model.

Really want to know what throttle cable to go for now though?

Many thanks
