A few questions from a newbie

Hi please bear with me this maybe a long post

first a bit of history

last weekend i bought a 82 1500 auto cabby it was a cheap as chips deal as it had been abandoned and the pickup company wanted rid. we towed the thing home and i had a look over it. anyway to cut a long story short the engine is b***ered in a big non repairable way. not sure about the gearbox either as it is covered in bits of engine and oil.

now as this car is my new plaything I quite fancy putting a mk2 1.8 in it (I dont like auto boxes I get bored in traffic) I have read a few post and believe the mk2 engine will drop in but will need a new back mount fabricated and mk2 gearbox will drop in but will I need to change the driveshafts for sirocco ones or will the cabby shafts be alright bearing in mind it is an auto box that is coming out.

the setup I quite fancy is a 16V on bike carbs I believe r1 carbs will do the job but will the jets need modding in anyway?

is there anything else i have overlooked apart from the pedal box, gear linkage, manifolds fuel supply  and kitchen sink :D

thanks inadvanced

Nope, you have it just about covered. 'Fuel supply' includes return as well as supply, as in you need 2x fuel pipes, and the tank, fuel pump and accumulator from an injection cabby. What year is the cabby? I think they changed from using 90mm flange on driveshafts, to 100mm, at some point.

cheers for the response

the car is on a Y plate which is 1982 i think. if i go with carbs instead of injection will i need to have the return hose or do i just need to uprate the lift pump?

Running carbs means that you only need the one fuel line.

Cheers paul will measure the shafts when the lump is out over the next few days.

Ok after a fair day stripin bits out the car I have found that I have two fuel lines coming up from the tank it had this little black tub with one line in and two lines out one went into the carb and the other went into the return. so I have both options now injection or carbs.

I have read some post (but can not find them again) about fitting bike carbs to a 1.8 can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks simon
