A couple of ABF conversion questions (on bike carbs)

At the minute im converting my 1.1 to a 2l 16v abf engine. I've got the engine etc, but i have an immobiliser ecu and the non-immobilised ones seem to be pretty rare. What i was wondering was whether i could use the  ecu off of a mk3 8v gti as i only need the ecu for ignition as i'm running it on bike carbs. Also would it be worth looking at aftermarket control such as Megajolt? I'm looking at keeping the project low cost so obviously an oem ecu is cheaper but would it be worth investing in aftermarket when running bike carbs?

To save money, you could use a Mk2 16V ignition ECU on the ABF. Megajolt is another alternative but I don't think they do it any more - if so, then all good. But if not then you can use Megasquirt to handle just the ignition side. Another alternative is a 1.3 small block dizzy. And another is MSD + ABF dizzy to trigger.

using the mk2 16v ecu sounds good, but are there any disadvantages to using that instead of the mk3?

TBH I've not heard of anyone using the Mk3 ECU (to handle just the ignition side) and carbs. Basically the options are going to split into 2 groups:

Fixed ignition mapping
Small block (points) dizzy
Mk2 ECU
Mk3 ECU

Tunable ignition mapping
Megajolt
Megasquirt
MSD

Any fixed ignition mapping will be a disadvantage compared to a tunable one. But whether there's massive differences between the Mk2 ECU and Mk3 ECU  :dontknow:

big help as ever Paul (been browsing through fastgolf.org.uk)
I'm thinking of going for fixed ignition mapping just for simplicity and low cost (although mappable would be a nice future upgrade)
Its not going to be a concern for a while yet so will probably keep looking for a mk3 ecu, if not then i'll try a mk2 and see how I go?
