22.2mm master cylinder or 22mm master cylinder

I've seen a master cylinder from a mk2 G60 which is 22.2mm, is this the same one i need to upgrade brakes on my mk1 GTi cabby? i've seen a lot of posts mentioning the 22mm master cylinder off a mk2 16v. just want to know if that 0.2mm makes it a totally different MC.
Thanks.

Should be fine. I have a 22.2mm one with 4 outlets from a passat. For the price (about ?25 from ecp/gsf) I would be inclined to get a new one. At least you know all the seals etc will be ok...

Oh and you will want to upgrade the servo to the 16v one at the same time. Think the bigger m/c with the smaller (mk1) servo can cause issues. Don't quote me on that though!

have a look in the braking faq for more info.

yea, i am looking to get a servo too, but i've seen a MC. So the 22.2mm 4 outlet MC will bolt straight on? no need for T-pieces and all that?

You'll need one t-piece for the brake light switch but otherwise it will bolt straight up. Might need to bend the brake pipes to match the m/c too.

woza, can you show us a picture in your bay tonight or tomorrow with the passat mc in?

im going to ecp or gsf to pick one up tomorrow and sourced a servo from a new vw scrappy in manc

would just like to see what it looks like fitted so i have a before and after picture for reference…

once again the haynes manual proves its worth or lack of it!

Doesn't really matter mate, as long as you plumb them in diagonally,

ie so you have one front and one rear pipe into the front section of the M/C and one frnt/one rear to the back section of the M/C.

your mk1 m/c I assume has 6 outlets, 2 each side and 2 underneath, 3 on each 'circuit'.  The new one will have 4 outlets, two on each side.

Teh M/C will bolt straight on  like the old one.  You'll have to bend teh existing lines a bit, no problemo though.  T piece's required if you want to keep the hydaulic light switch (mines got two, one in each circuit).  Or pull the switch wiring back into the cabin, and fit a switch to the pedal box.

Have a gander in the FAQ:
