20vt engine with steel sump

Post

Hi,

I have fitted a steel sump to my 20vt engine, I'm sure it was from a ABF engine (been that long I cant quite remember)- I have welded a boss on for the turbo return pipe, as high up on the sump as poss. The dipstick shows the correct gauge of oil, yet the oil seems to be filling into the boss, so therefore very high in the sump.

Any ideas if the same oil level measurement would be the same with a different sump???

Cheers

No it would be different - easiest idea would be to measure the amount of oil the engine takes from the spec sheet and put that in.

Thats what I did mate, put 4.5 litres in and it seems to be too high. Would it need less with the different sump size

Think you need the spec of the sump being used (for correct oil amount) and I doubt its abf as I think all the abf,s ive seen have alloy sumps, (all 3)

Cheers, the sump is off of a mk3 tdi as well as many other cars. Any idea of where I would find the specs for this?
