20vt cooler and charger sizes

im just having my mk1 finished off.

it has an AGU and will run a K04-001 with a remap.

its having a minimal bay and i really wanted to have the intercooler and rad alongside each other. i figured as long as the intercooler is the same volume as a mk4 golf one it would be sufficient.

am i right in thinking a massive intercooler will give more lag due to increased time to build up pressure when the car starts running boost ??

iv had this made, but think its too big ???

advice would be a massive help as i may well be totally wrong !!! i just want to get it right !!!

thanks,

jon

Yeah in thoery the larger your intercooler and charge piping, the longer it will take for your turbo to pressurise the system.  But also you need to take in to account how cold the air is going in to your engine, the colder the air is, the more air will fit in.

Its up to you, really, I have a big front mount intercooler squeezed infront of my rad, If I end up with alot of lag, I'll just up the boost, once I have all the fueling sorted out.

From what I can gather (and correct me if I'm wrong!) the turbos, K03, K03s and the K04, are fairly small units, that run up quite quickly, and will not suffer from lag as much as larger turbos?

I would go with the biggest intercooler you can comfortably fit in front of your rad.
