2.0 bottom end with 1800 head, possible?

The engine in my MK1 needs a full rebuild. Its an 1800. Ive read that the 2.0 8v motor is a nice conversion, so, in order to maintain the original look of the car and engine bay can i put a reconditioned 1800 head on a 2.0 bottom end, thus keeping K-Jet and rocker and cam covers etc? Or can i retro fit my K-Jet and covers onto a complete 2.0 motor. Going over to Digifant is not an option for me.

I believe fitting the complete mk1 head on the 2 ltr block is the best/easiest way forward here but have never actually tried it so may be wrong.

yes mate, most people only swap the bottom end anyway.

just depends which block you use then,

3a seems to be the ideal as it requires the least messing about.

3a's can be a bit hard to get now, mk3 gti engines 2E, ADY, AGG are easier to get hold of but require blanking plates for the breather holes so work out more costly.

they're not as hard to find as you'd think mate. theres a hell of alot of audi 80's on fleabay :D

the mk3 blocks metioned are all tall blocks, which iirc are all approx 17mm taller than the 1800 block which may (not everyone gets this) cause the bonnet to foul. the 3a is the same height and is sometimes reffered to as a "bubble block".

afaik every 2l block needs blanking
