2.0 8v conversion

Post

Just started looking into sourcing a 2.0 8v engine for the cabrio.
Guessing the lump from the mk3 would be the best bet, not sure which engine code??
Has anyone else got the 8v conversion.
I will not be running injection as I already have a good carb on my car.
Thanks

Projekt Frustration :

White 1991 Clipper. Lowered over polished zender rims, Single 40 dellorto on lynx manifold, kent cam, full stainless 'zorst / manifold, powerflex bushed and braced. Not the fastest car, but sounds super nice!

Still going after 12 years… never said it was a quick fix! Time is not my friend.

I used an audi  ABK (if I remember correctly) unit,   2.0 ltr  8v  tall block.

any 2.0 8v lump will do, 3a from audi best fit if you can find one and want to use mk1 engine management. regardless of what lump you get you'll need to change the dizzy, my recommendation would be 1.8 mk1 gti. you'll needa tsr adaptor ring and swap the old 2.0 dizzy gear to it.

then you'll need an electric fuel pump, facet of some kind or some have used the post-84 mk1 cabrio/scirocco or g40 shape polo in-tank pump with success. to run it fit a kjet fuel pump relay without a rev limiter, then either run a spade with inline fuse to N on the fusebox, or get a large CE1 pin and fit it to e/14 to power the fuel pump. (don't run it off ignition live, not safe!!)
GSF sell the relay you need:
935VG0090 k-jet relay without limiter £ 23.20

I would fit a mk1/2 gti head + cam to it as well, with injector inserts blanked. if you plan to use a 2e2 carb you'll need to find a digifant or early kjet head without the vacuum tappign between ports 3 nd 4, and drill a hole for the coolant feed. if you have a weber no need to worry any gti head will do.

finally if its a tall block you may find aftermarket 4 branch hits the bulkhead, i recommend you use a std mk1/cab/rocco gti 6 bolt flange manifold and downpipe plus a gti exhaust system matched to the age of your cabrio
