2.0 8v conversion

hi,

i currently have a 1.8 gti 8v but would like to convert to a 2.0 8v. would anyone be so kind as to tell me everything i would need to do this? i have been told it would go straight in using the existing gearbox but what about the injection system? can i use the existing system too? not too clever at all this stuff but loving the learning!! help!!

thanks!

Depends on what engine you choose as to the amount of 'aftermarket' work required. Any idea what your choice would be? ie Mk3 8v, Audi 3E etc

was thinking of a mk3 2.0 8v conversion as they seem to be easier to get hold of. have sourced an engine locally so all good on that front but it cant be as easy as just plonkin it straight in. can it??? do i need engine mounts?? different injection system? existing gearbox will fit wont it?

all replies gratefully recieved!!

Yea good engine, everything will fit from your existing GTi. When using your old box, fit the clutch & flywheel for that box to the Mk3 block. You will need to get a spacer ring for the distributer either made up or from TSR, this is to allow you to use your existing distributer you can't use the Mk3 without using the crank sensor which you are not going to use. Swap over existing engine mounts (perhaps re-new them). This is one of the tall block engines (30mm taller than existing) so you maybe need to extend your exhaust manifold or replace (some actually fit ok, so keep your finger crossed). Can't think of much else . . good luck & keep us posted, pics are always good

This is also an engine swap I am looking into for my 85' Cabrio…. at the moment it's a 1.6 auto, and just wondering if the auto box would fit onto the mk3 Gti engine???  Anyone know or done this before???
