16v into my mk1, wot problems can I expect??

Am planning to slot a 16v into my Y-reg mk1 1.8Gti over the winter, will probably choose to run it on twin 45's so electrics and fuelling should be pretty simple, can anyone tell me what other complications I might come across??
Cheers, Matt

hi matt i have just fitted my engine same conversion as u. you wont find any problems they slip in nice and easy ish ;) for all your carb needs go to eurocarb they will sort you out with everything you need. you can use the same box as the 8v or you can use a cable change box. i used a rebuilt 020 box with quaff dif. im running 45 dellortos but you can use webber if you choose. the clutch etc is the same but best to buy a new one while your at it. the electrics are quite easy not much needed you can loose most of the original loom. one small issue is that the dizzy will hit the master cylinder but if like me you are very lucky you will gert sway with it. if not you can use a pug 205 dizzy as these have the plugs that are vertical and clear the master cylinder.

dont forget the exhaust, need a conversion manifold or make your own. as for dizzy its easy, simply fit an ABF cap and rotate the dizzy 180 degrees, loads of room then.  Need an 8v king lead though, or make a longer one to suit.  the problem with the pug cap is the lead ends are different
