cheers mate 8)

doesn't really say about gear linkage, anyone know what ill need ?

Yeah because it assumes you're starting from a big block - start from a small block car (4 speed) and there's additional tasks to do. I don't know if the gear stick, its base, the longitudinal shaft and the bearing support in the middle are the same but I assume so. I think everything from that point onwards would need replacing with the 5 speed big block stuff.

Plus you have fuelling, wheels, tyres, braking and suspension to do to. Fuelling is going to be needed, the rest is well advised, and a good opportunity to do an upgrade anyway.

cheers

i have coilovers and uprated brakes allready soo i should be okay with that

can i use the mk2 drive shafts ?

also ive heard that ill have to modify the down pipe on the exhaust manifold or buy a tubular one

Just checked, you need the entire gearshift mechanism including the lever and selector shaft. Apparently one of the Mk2 driveshafts is the same and one is different, so you can use one of them, don't know which though. Modify the downpipe - you'll need the entire 16V manifold and a custom downpipe to connect to your own exhaust (not recommended) or to buy a complete manifold + system (recommended).

No, you could weld the bracket onto your existing steering rack, but you'd need the dimensions to copy exactly where to weld it to etc. Hence its a bit easier to swap the rack over.

soo all i need is the rack ? no mk1 linkage needed at all

i had a look at a mk1 gti 2day and the linkage looks all different to the mk2 stuff

You need all the linkage. Rack: swap to big block 5 speed (ie probably GTI) or weld the bracket on in the right place.

etka suggests both mk2 16v shafts are the same as the scirocco 16v shafts, but from what I've read this shouldnt work? not actually tried this though.

all the mk1 linkage will bolt onto the valver box aye!

Im thinking about this my self so am I correct in thinking that is I get a 9a engine I can drop that into my GTi, use my 8v gear box to save with sawping the drive shafts over and then I need the ignition loom, and the new valve holders to convert the 9A to run on K-jet, then keep the 16V WUR I already have, fit the ignition loom and if I fit a rocco 16v manifold I can keep the air box where it is but fit a 16v one instead of the 8v one…

anything else?

yep, except what do you mean by 'valve holders'?
9a run on a variation of k-jet, just has more ecu control with a lambda sensor.  with the rocco inlet you might get away with using your old intake boot, but it might not reach perfectly.  Fuel lines will be fiddly as the wur & 5th injector are in a different spot, plus the injectors are round the front and not the back.  as you say drop the 16v air flap and metering head on the 8v airbox, the airflap opening is bigger but you can force an 8v boot on it, just ;)

Exhaust manifold

oh I know about that, Ill use the hot tuning one as its adjustable in length…

and I ment to say injector holders not valve holders

Ill have to do the maths for bang per buck and see which wins

ah, well those will be in the scirocco inlet manifold, no worries there :)
