The best/ideal shafts to use are from some Late Cabbies and the 16V Scirocco. They are shorter than the standard Mk1 (GTI etc) shafts and have 100mm inners as standard.
I'm not sure if anyones established exactly which late cabbies had them fitted (?).
I have run 100mm inners on standard shafts, but it does require machining to either the shaft or CV to get the 100mm CVs on.
If you can't find any, fit 90mm Flanges to your gearbox until you do, then change em over.

....or simply use the original gearbox, thus avoiding any hassle with having to fit different driveshafts etc.
