16v abf dizzy cap and fire order.
Hi all, trying to get my 16v convo to run and i have used an abf dizzy cap. I removed the locating notch to allow it to point upwards.
I followed the firing order from the FAQ that is going around but it doesn't seem right.
Im sure i have seen a modified picture showing the correct firing order.
any one got any input on the order teh leads should com off the abf cap?
i think it should look like this from above
24
13
but the faq has it as
31
42
If you ask me the first plug to spark should be no1 just after no 1 bore is at tdc?
input is appreciated.

spot on mate,
think its the first one also as managed to get some life out of it with the help of some cold start spray.
Starting to think that although the injectors spray at full wack on the metering flap they are not giving enough fuel when the flap is only up a tiny bit - i.e trying to start etc.
maybe get some new injectors - not like i have not spent enough all ready

Are you refereing to this one:
that'll be mine! And you're right, I haven't labeled it in Cylinder Order.
When I labeled it I was just doing it for reference between the two images, I can't believe it never occured to me to refer to them in conventional cylinder order. ops:
Also can't believe noones pointed it out to me before!
Anyway, apologies thats my bad, i'll change it!.

Theres a few options mate. I used the ABF cap, cut the locating notch out and point it upwards.

theres other options but I can't be arsed to find the links right now…
To be honest you're best off doing the valver m/c and servo change anyway, doesn't cost much.

just a quick question…
do the numbers on the dizzy caps refer to the cylinders the HT leads go to?

yes, #1 cylinder being the timing belt end. in addition to the info in this thread if you're running an abf cap on a kr, simply rotate the dizzy 180 degrees. that way you dont have to chop up your cap. only issue is you need a longer king lead from an 8v mk2 or similar. either way works but i just prefer not to chop up caps

Just digging up an old thread, Ive done all of the above, with my mk1 9A but can still only get it started with the standard cap on, and the brake cylinder disconnected.
With the ABF cap, it will just pop and grunt on cranking. With the standard cap it fires up and runs for a few seconds then dies, but that is with the dizzy right on the end of its adjustment.
I have had KR cams fitted. All new ignition parts.
Any help??

the abf cap is a tricky one, I usualyl fail on the first try so just keep moving the leads round 1 till it fires up
