1600 to 1800. Straight swap?

Ive just aquired an 82 gti. 1600 engine has just about had it. 1800 engine seems a little easier to aquire and obviously has a little more poke. would i be able todo a straight swap, and would the parts of the 1600 swap straight over…ie inlet, exhaust etc. help would be much apreciated!

I think its a straight swap with only a couple of notable things:

1. Get the 1800 top rad hose - the exit point on the head is in a different place
2. You can use the same gearbox no worries, if you use the 1800 box and it has the MFA switch instead of a plain old reversing light switch, you can simply take the reversing light from 2 of the terminals on the (6 terminal) switch.

They tell me a 1600 k-jet injection system [metering head] will gve more power when used on an 1800 block !!
