16 v conversion

ive decided i want to convert my 8v carb engine to a 16 v.

what parts can i use from my exisiting parts on the 16v block and head?

i will continue to use my twin webers on the 16 v  so can i just get a block and head and use my exisiting wiring and gearbox??

any advice and help from any one who has done this wud be appreciated…

this will be quite easy seeing you already have a carb car….

you will need a new inlet manifold for your carbs…

you will need the 16v engine and also the ecu and tci unit plus the wiring loom for this - the loom is small only five or six wires….

if im gonna run it on carbs  why would i need an ecu?

or will i need that for the timing side of it all etc?

will my gearbox fit straight on too?

The ECU just controls the Ignition on the 16V, so yes you need it.

Your gearbox will fit.

You don't need the ECU, you can use a 1.3 dizzy, except the ignition curve/map isn't optimal.

wud that effect the way it runs or anything ?
or is that a common way for this engine  conversion ?

Ignition advance affects the way it runs, but not drastically - you'd probably not notice a difference, you might get a few flat spots etc. I think the most common way is to reuse the 16Vs ECU, even with carbs.

Fair point tbh

sorry to highjack but its on this exact same subject

16v on webers… what setup would be best for what engine

1.8 16v on 40's or 45's?
2.0 16v on 40's or 45's?

i've got some 40's kicking around and thinking about building up a second engine (just incase etc) so was wondering whether they'd be best with either a 1.8 or 2L… or whether its worth going down a specific route/setup..?

i'm sure this will help mk1nath in his end result

no expert on carbs but i'd go for 45's on either 1.8 or 2.0 on a 16v.

thats what i was thinking, more air - more torque

just that they're kicking around gathering dust, bro's left overs from a half arsed attempt at a project, he's gone for a 20vt now
