I think the 1.8 driver head has smaller valves than the 1.8 GTI head. Also, you'd need to ensure the carb is jetted for its application - what was it from?

the carb was from my citi 1.3 also, what about my exhaust? will the bore be big enough? or will i need a bit bigger to help it breath? its a bit pea shooterish just now. i dont know if the 1.3i had uses the same as 1.5/1.6 carb  golfs since its a big block 1.3 :S

On my old car I did a 1300 to 1800 conversion and ran a 3" straight through pipe. Changed the carb to a 2b2 (?) , but can't remember what jetting and needles I had, 'cept that they were bigger.

Tried a 288 cam, but it wouldn't idle reliably, a 276 didnt give enough top end and then settled on a 280. Car was making 99bhp 144nm on the wheels. Comparing to OEM specs on standard cars on the same dyno on the same day, mine was making 130bhp at the fly.

My setup was: 1800 GTI bottom end, raised the comp ratio slightly, balanced, lightened flywheel, 1800 Sport (carb) head, vernier gear and 280 cam. Was getting to 62mph in just under 8secs, after grabbing 3rd at about 58mph.

Get the setup right and you'll be in the 15s over the 1/4 mile.

if the carb hasn't been re-jetted from when you had it on the 1300, it won't be providing enough fuel. you could re-jet your current carb, or check the parts for sale section; someone is selling a weber 32/34 dmtl carb which is set up for an 1800 already. i'm not sure what benefits you will see from the gti cams without a gti head, using the driver head now you have a hotter cam with a more restrictive head. the weber with gti head and cam runs really nice, my mate ran the same set up for a while, was really sweet.
