1.8i Auto to Manual Conversion

Firstly let me introduce myself. I'm Abi, most people call me Crumble, I'm 22 years old, I live in Swindon, and I work for ECP. Im new to this forum so please be kind :P

Brief history of how my car just fell into my hands one summers day.
Please scroll down the page if you're not interested in knowing how I got my car, but are willing to help.
I wouldn't want to bore or waste anyone's time

I'm currently driving, a '92 1.8i Auto Clipper Cab, but am thinking of swapping to manual. I don't want to buy a new car, because I've had my car (Felix) for just over 2 years now and would be devastated to see it go as I have so many memories with it.

I had a 1.3 52 Plate Ford Ka that needed a fair bit of work done to it, but a guy I knew wanted a small run around for his wife and she instantly fell in love with my KA when she saw it, much to my delight this guy had my dream car, Felix. I took him for a test drive, went to the guys house to discuss money etc. Basically we both decided that we wanted each others car, and would be happy to do a straight swap with no money involved. Stoked

So after having Felix for just over two years now building up a car full of memories and happiness, I've decided it time to start doing some work on him.

Getting to the point, finally..

I'm looking to convert my 1.8i auto to a manual, for better fuel consumption and 'performance', and I was just wondering where I would need to start. I know its not going to be as simple as just swapping the gear box, and gear stick and putting in a new peddle box, but was wondering if anyone had done this conversion before or knows anything about this conversion and could give me a little information or advice on what it will involve, what I will need, how many pairs of hands I will need, a rough amount of time it could take and if it is in an engine in or out job, and anything else that could be helpful.

Is it more hassle then its worth?

Thanks Guys.

I'm new here, so bare with me :P

Well i admit i have never even seen an auto mk1 but i would think its fairly easy conversion, would think you need g/box plus linkage, flywheel/clutch assy/ starter motor?, peddle box/clutch cable. dont know if drive shafts are different and dont know if auto steering rack has the fitting for manual linkage.

If you have an injection auto, it is VERY RARE so don't change it!
