1.8 16v into the mk1
my kjet died yesterday so im looking for another engine and have been offered a 1.8 16v with a new cylinder head. the only downfall is that its not in a car and hasnt been run for bout 2 years. he wants 100 squid for it.
im running twin 40s so i know i need another inlet manifold and an exhaust manifold but will it fit to an aug gearbox and is there anything else that i will need?

1.8 16v into the mk1
the 8v came out pretty easy and stripped it down (cylinder head with fast road cam for sale ?100 and 4-1 branch exhaust manifold ?100)
the the new engine turned up woohoo but to find out that the engine had no alternator or dizzy so after i sourced them, a new exhaust manifold and inlet manifold, i began cleaning and painting
and so far i have the engine in the car wityh the problem of the dizzy been too big and getting in the way of the brake servo and the new 4 branch manifold doesnt fit for the antiroll bar, can i do away with this and just put top and bottom strut braces on instead
and for the next task for next month to fit the coilovers if i ever get it done

Different dizzy cap will sort out your clearance issues - Not sure which ones fit though….
I wouldn't want to remove the ARB completely as it does do quite a bit to keep the front end flat - Different to strut braces…

Use BMW 3 series master cylinder reservoir to give you plenty of clearance for the dizzy , you need two and there are plenty in the scrappy . The cap will have a brake switch fitted the same as the Golf . I would look for a different manifold and keep the roll bar . Look at some posts on here by sim0n_parker he has the same problem and may be able to help or at least give guidance . The now defunct TSR used to sell an adaptor plate .

-What manifold have you bought? On my Ashley, the short bit to connect to the system slightly knocked the ARB, but its a good idea to get a flexi in there anyway so i had it, shortened, a flexi welded on and bent slightly at an exhaust place.

Yeh thanks for that email was great help using the abf dizzy and fitted the 16v servo and master cylinder.
The ashleys manifold is too low for the arb but im currently bending the extention pipe by the use of a hacksaw and a welder cutting v's into the pipe to give the bend and welding it up. should clear the arb after iv finished.
the biggest problem is the radiator, as im using twin 40's on the engine im left with about an inch clearence between the carbs and the radiator couling leaving no room for any kind of airfliter and the water pipes are all in the way any ideas

The bore sizes are a few mm different, top hose I used a bit of flexi hose and the lower I used part of the 16v hose from the block and a bit of the Corsa pipe from the radiator and joined them together with a straight spacer. End up with a bit of an 'S' shaped pipe.
