1.6 8V TO 2L 8V

Hi all

I have a donor car that has the 2l 8v 2e engine fitted and I want to transplant it all to my mk1 golf that is currently fitted with a 1.6 8v gti engine. I have read alot of the posts and the engine conversion guides but still have a few questions.

First off if I decide to transplant the whole engine I realise it doesn't increase bhp much but is it a straight forward lift engine out one car place in the other? Dizzy and everything?

Second, what is the benefits of fitting the 1.8 8v head?

Third, will my 1.6 gearbox fit the 2l block as the 2l gearbox is on its way out and if so what will it be like with regards to the differant ratios, acceleration, top speed etc?

What I really want from the engine is about 140-150bhp with it running a newman camshaft, vernier pulley, megajolt ignition and carbs but I am just unsure as to how to go about it still.

I've got a mk3 2.0 8v (later AGG lump) complete setup in a mk1 (was a 1.3 driver), I wouldn't say it's a drop it in the hole and off you go but it's fairly straight forward if you wanted to put the whole thing in. I know alot of people use the 1800 head but if you haven't got it to start with you could just use the 2.0 complete but you'd need to do a fair bit of wiring.
As for power I was running 135 ish bhp and 15 sec 1/4s and have since added a 4 branch manifold and fast road cam so 140 isn't difficult to achieve.
Gearbox, the mk3 gti boxes arent great, you've a few options, but the mk3 clutch is bigger so you'd have to use a smaller clutch/flywheel, not sure how long a 1.6 gearbox would last tho.
Feel free to pm me if you'd like more details/pictures.

if it\'s got tits or tyres it\'s gonna be trouble
