None of the 'original' MK1s came with a 1.4 litre. Maybe the Citi's did???

Aha! We're mostly in the UK and over here, the SA Mk1s are grey imports so very few exist. So there's probably hardly anyone here who has converted a 1.4 to 2.0 litre. I think (not sure) that all later SA Mk1s were 'big block' in that they homogenised parts for different models by down-scaling the big block engine to 1.3 or 1.4. This means that the exhaust exits at the rear (not front) of the engine, the engine mounts, tranny, flywheel, clutch, manifolds are different than our 'small block' but are reasonably compatible between the big blocks. But to be honest, you're best searching around for a SA VW forum, I'm sure there's one or two out there!
