a freind of mine put a 1.3 head on his reckons the compression was better, weather it really was is another matter,
the biggest problem is m8 why spend money on making 1.1 to go faster if your gonna chuck a gti lump in it later on in life,
save up buy a mk2 gti thats pretty much rotten away/ mot failure then you can drop the lump in and have the donor car there for all the parts you need
then the the rest of the mk2 sell the left over bits on ebay for the trim, seats, and anything else thats left over etc and claw your money back, your be shocked at how much you would make on a shell you thinks worthless and ready for the heap, hopefully space ain't a problem thou lol

To be honest, id just leave it until you do an engine drop, its not worth the hassle and loosing reliability of tampering with the 1.1

Just wait for the gti drop, will be worth it mate!

the best and quickest mod for a 1.1 is remove all luxery interior items and make it lighter

failing that sell it a buy a 20vt lol

heres my two-penneth

nobody makes cam's, I searched everywhere lol

is your's a standard 1.1 or the high compression formel "e?"  if you aren't keeping the engine then don't go in too deep, just replace the standard backbox as they weigh an absolute ton, and now the weather is warming up, replace the airfilter with a k&n filter (the drop in filter not a cone) and then take off the warm air system at the front of the airbox. remember to plug the vacuum line though!!

That will help the engine breath a lot better. mine revs a lot cleaner.  other than that a full service changing all fluids, plugs, leads, coil rotor+cap etc.

may be wise to change the gear bushes as that does make changing gear a lot smoother and faster.

then to gain maximum speed take out everything bar the drivers seat and controls lmao.

:D

Jon.

edit: remember to run a cold air feed from the grill to the airbox feed.  Forgot to mention that lmao

lol that is true, more valves/turbos/blowers/nitrous etc.

although in fairness displacement is often the most reliable way to increase performance, assuming the conversion is done well.
