Wynns Tapett Treatment

Has anyone used this on their motor?  A few people have mentioned to me that it may help with the slight tapetty noise I get on cold-start?  I had a look at the bottle and it said it was for hydraulic lifters, but I thought the GTI engine was non-hydraulic?

In short… I'm confuzzled  :dontknow:

I'm not sure, but if you do try it, try to get the trade product as it is better than the retail version.  You can tell them apart by the label.  One is plain and basic without instructions and one has public use labelling.

I think an oil change and a good grade of oil may be just as effective.

Early gti engines had shims, so this stuff will do nothing. Later ones run hydraulic tappets so might help but I doubt it.

It recently had a full service with new oil.  I found the basic bottled stuff and was thinking of that.

Vw T25's I restore use hydraulic tappets and they best we have found is to use magnatec oil - it really seems to help. I know its not a Mk1 engine but a common cure for this in these engines. Awkwardly tho a T25 uses 4.5 litres of oil and they sell magnatec in 4ltr botlles…
