Written Off?!

Some crazy women in a Mondeo hit me from behind on a roundabout today. Didnt cause much damage really, she hit the R/O/S by the towing eye. Scraped the bumper and pushed it in by about 1/2 an inch and there is also a small scrape just below the brake light. I'll try and post some pictures tomorrow. You should see the state of her car though lol, her plastic bumper just smashed to bits and the headlight fell out.The insurance company are sending an assessor to see the damage to my Golf tomorrow but said to me over the phone it will most likely be written off due to its age!!

Does anyone have experience of this? I'm dreading that her insurance company offers me a couple of hundred quid and expects me to hand over my car. When I insured my car I declared the value at £1k but its worth stacks more to me. If I agree to a value would I be able to buy the car back, and at what percentage?

Anyone give me approximate value based on current market? 1.8 Gti The engine, brakes, exhaust and wheel are all standard. Interior is in reasonable condition. Roof needs a respray and theres the usual rust bubbling round the filler cap and rear windscreen.

Thanks in advance for your help.

If its not your fault and 99.9% of rear end  accidents are not the fault of the car infront, then stand your ground you want your car putting back to the condition before the accident as you are not to blame.
I have done this many times in the past and directly contacted the other party insurance company and told them my demands.
once I rang about a rear end smash and told the I would take legal action/and or my next call would to be an accident demands company, they told me if i did not do this them I would have an hire car within the hour and for a quick solition £500 for ever person in the car, plus i could claim if I had an extrra injuries ie whiplash.
Do not take this whiplash injuries lighly they can just be a pain in neck for a few days but some years later in comes back and its a lot worse then its too late to claim.
this is the time to be pro-active even if you leave this to your own insurance company they are mostly useless and might go for knock to knock, its not yoy fault do not contact you insurance either do it yourselfor let an accident chaser/repair do all the work for you.

i cant remember the percentage you can usually buy the car back for, but its usually low and as the damage sounds not too bad hopefully you can buy it back, fix it and still have some money in your pocket, the only difference is your car will prob be registered as cat D damaged.

Ive used a no fault company in the past called kindertons, let me know if you wanted to consider using them as i can put  a word in, they are good because they will make sure they stand there ground against the other persons insurers, provide you with courtesy car from day one etc, then charge it back to other insurers.

Best of luck, Rich

Usually the buy back fee is 10% of what they pay you for it- but this doesn't happen in every case-plus check what the requirements and cost are of putting the car back on the road if you do buy t back- my mums insurance co wanted reciepts for new dealer parts only- engineer reports, re-register fees etc- think they weretrying it on but needless to say I didn't bothe buying it back for her cos it sounded like too much agro for a peaughot!!!

when someone rear ended my mk3 golf a few months back, everything got done soo much quicker by just going straight through the other drivers insurance dont even speak to ur company. guaranteed to just slow the process down! They paid out a decent value for my car and just told me i could keep it too  8O didnt even get asked to buy it back!

But like whats bin said before its not for fault so dont just accept anything unless your 100% happy with it, they are the ones compensating you for the inconvenience!  Good luck though dude its a really pain i the arse isn't it!  *no pun intented!*
