Windblocker for Mk1 Cabby advice please

Can someone please advice me whether I should buy the expensive windblocker for my cabby for ?160 off eBay or do the cheaper ones (like the one's advertised on this site by Hotuning) for ?80 work the same?

I don't want to waste my money but the other one seems very expensive.

Please help!!  :banghead:

I've been wondering the same mate but looking at them they look exactly the same, think i'm going to opt for the cheaper one myself.

I have a cheap one off ebay 2nd hand ?50 well worth the investment as it stops Mrs A5OPY moaning about the drafts.

(not sure of the make) not sure its worth buying the ?160 one

Dont ask what your club can do for you, but what can you do for your club?

I'm wondering the same too, the only thing I've noticed is that the upright section that sits in the roll bar area looks to taper in more on some than on others.

I googled around a bit and found this link to the old owners club site:

http://www.vwgolfmk1.co.uk/Main/deflect.htm

The wind deflector pictured looks to be really good quality with a rigid horizontal section.

Can anyone with a deflector stick some pictures and prices/manufacturer details up?

Were these ever made as a genuine VW accessory?

Thanks, that's really helpful to know that others have been wondering the same.

The cheaper ones look like they don't taper in and fit as well but if they do the job at half the price its all good.

A5OPY - Mk1Collector told me you would know if anyone did!!!  Why aren't there ever any bargains around when I'm looking for stuff

Buy the cheaper and compare at the next meet! ?160 to a draft is not worth it!

BODI-WINDSCHOTTS

Also got one from eBay some years back and was a good buy.

I got fitting instructions with it giving the following maker/distributor address:

mail: info@bodi-windschotts.de

I understand there was never a VW one produced.

…that's from my website….as is
http://www.vwgolfmk1.co.uk/Main/Mods.htm

bought from Bodi-Windschotts…..got one for each car (fittings are slightly different on the latest one) but they are absolutely brilliant….worth every penny, delivery was quick….
…they do one that comes in different colours too……have a look at their website….
…the other one mentioned elswhere does not look as good quality….but maybe that's just me……

Nice one Prowler, I've checked out all the pictures of your deflector on there and I really like the look and fit of it. I'm going to hold on and buy one of those rather than the cheaper ebay versions.  8)

Ill second or third that above.

The bidi-windschott versions have an XL version that covers the back seat too. It works a treat !

VW themselves manufactured a 'tennis racket' style deflector that clipped to the chair but Ive never seen any!!!!

been looking myself the only thing that puts me off the Bodi-Windschotts is the present euro exchange rate. BY the time youve added postage you are looking at around 170 uk pounds for the XL non coloured.

but would be interested in pics and peoples thoughts of the ones they have bought.

the Bodi-Windschotts I must admit seemt to be a perfect fit to the roll bar and also around the awkward shapes around teh back seats. Looks like a top quality item.

Agreed on the exchange rate, but the most expensive ones on Ebay at ?160 look to be the Bodiwindschott ones. They are using the same pictures and also the same model names ie XL.

I'll enquire with the seller.

I had a look on german ebay last week and saw some of those, but they were made by Kamei, perhaps they were the original supplier to VW?

I don't think they would be very effective though compared to the full version?  :dontknow:

I'm sure mine is a Bodiwindschott one (I just recently bought it off my mate) either way it works great and with the windows up you get almost no wind at all.

It's good if you have girly long hair like me :D

I've contacted the seller to see if these are the same as the Bodi-windschott versions. I also pointed them towards this site and the possibility of a bulk/group buy or otherwise reduced price if sold through here.

I purchased a Bodi-Windschott wind break for my cab. three years ago best buy i've ever made, transforms open top motoring i can now travel down the motorway at 70+ mph and there is very little draught so much so i sometimes come home from work after dark with the hood down heater on no draught at all, also you don't have to take it down when closing the roof as long as you don't want to use the back seat, mine has been in place since i purchased it, the only regret i have is that i should have bought one 25 years ago when i first had the car
