If you have a spray gun I'll assume you know about different paint systems and that you'll need a primer. VW Golf black (I assume solid black) is easy enough to make up, in fact in the Autocolor system its simply their black, ie no mixing etc.

For paint, I'd try Yellow pages and find a car paint shop in the local area, best to do this because you can have a chat with the knowlegeable staff who can advise you on pressures, mixing, etc etc and sell the other bits you'd need.

Im no expert but ive heard that celulose paints are alot easyer to work with. But they are now illeagle due to health issues. So all paints these days are water based.
I have heared of places selling cellulose paints though. So i would try and get some cellulose paints.
I could be totaly wrong but i would like to know cos i am considering doing mine this summer.

as paul said have a word with your local automotive paint supplier, 2 pack paint is probably your best bet as it dry very quickly and goes very hard.

TBH he probably won't sell it to you, unless you convince him you know what your doing. But it is a better paint. Also bear in mind these days, its a changing landscape and water based paints are coming onto the aftermarket too. These are sprayable but need higher power guns, and high powered drying equipment - ie workshop/paintshop levels of investment. So you can pretty much ignore these, I guess.

This leaves you with cellulose and 1k acrylic. Many stockists are now 'running down' their stock of celly and there is a vague rule which basically says, it should only be supplied for cars where it was originally sprayed as such. Basically if they have it, you're fine for a Mk1 Golf.
