Wheels?

Wheels?

A few months ago my Oh with all good intentions bought new alloys for my car.  Unfortunately I hate them and they are going to have to go.
:dontknow:  You can see them in my profile picture.

The wheels that were taken off are seen below (ignore the tear in the hood, it was replaced 2 years ago and this is an old photo).  Firstly does anyone know if they are likely to be the original wheels and if not what would have been?  Secondly the wheels although they look fine when you are a few feet away are not totally perfect and could do with some sort of refurb ie rubbed down and painted.  I don't want a failed DIY job on them so can anyone advise a rough idea of what it would cost to get them done?

Just sell em, you'll never make the money back from refurbing them.

To answer your question, you'll looking at about ?50 per wheel. Obviously anything complex will be more.

Sorry my wording obviously wasn't great.  The wheels which have to go are the new set which were fitted a few months back and are in my profile picture on the left.  I'm wanting those taken off and the other set ie the set in the big picture which were on the car when I got it refurbished and put back on.

the wheels your husband look kinda nice, far better then those ones in the bigger picture.
have you got a better pic of the ones your husband got you??

maybe you would fall in love with those if they were refurbished in a better way,

maybe diamondcut and the unsides painted to match the car or something

I'm having photobucket issues and couldn't get the photo on of the current wheels but they can be seen in this thread:

They were brand new and would probably look good on another car but I just don't fancy them on my cabby that much.   :dontknow:   He bought them as he hated the wheels I had on but in my view they were more in keeping with the car.

ok you win, i'd ditch them both and buy someting original, even scala's would look better than these!both of them sets don't do it for me  (just my opinion you understand)

the wheels in your sig are much more in keeping with a mk1

the ones in the big pic look terrible and you really need to reassess your fashion taste!  8O

Jackie, it's your choice but I personally don't go for modern multi-spoked wheels so I can agree with you there.

Why not attempt a refurb yourself. It's not that difficult and if there isn't any major kerbing to sort it's well worth a try. I'm sure you can ride on the TSW or whatever they are for now!

Nothing wrong with my fashion tastes thank you very much but my tastes in fashion have nothing whatsoever to do with my car.  As said in my post I did not buy the wheels and I want them removed as I don't like them. I'm going to drive on them until the end of September when I garage the car and do something about the other wheels during the winter.

So is it not likely that my original (well original to me) set would have been on the car at the time of manufacture?  Has a previous owner just put them on?

You need a nice set of Avus/Snowflakes. I'm going to refurb a set I have over the winter, just as a project, if they come out well you can have 'em for cost.

The postage would probably cost more than the wheels.  Thats the problem with living in NI, you can't just pop up to another members house on a whim and buy their spares.

i prefer the wheels in the big pic, not too keen on those spoke ones.

if you wanted to refurb the wheels that are more flat (in the big pic) it would be pretty easy to do yourself.

cost you about ?50ish depending on what paint you want.

I live in NW London surrounded by the Irish. They all drive over every year.
