whats the deal with those citi golf thingys?

hey every one, ive had air cooled v dubs since passing my test and the times come for a water cooled daily. ive pretty much come to the conclusion that im gunna get a south african 1.8 citi golf imported (sorry!) and was wandering if anyone has one and what they had to do to make it meet uk saftey regs. also how different are they com[pared to the original. i know the grils different and its obviously a five door but when it comes to slamming her  will standard mk1 lowering springs do the job?? cheers

freind of mine has a 98 one and the only difference that i know of is there's a trip computer in it. the one he had was 1.3 and he dropped 1.8gti engine from a sirrocco into it. the chassis and running gear and everything else is interchangable between them.

what year is it? dont worry about safety regulations..

the shockers you will have to replace the job lot (sealed units) probably a good thing, owt that fits a mk1 golf (big block) same as exhaust etc..

the front grille you can replace with later cabs.

get some front inner plastic arches as it wont have none, any will do. I had a citi, every day car (do big milage), a good un, sold it regret it now like.. If you need to know owt mate let us know, they aint worth much as nobody likes em' so dont pay loads. If its got air con well dunno if thats a bonus or not (take it out)…. if they are using sanden pumps then it aint. Will have better brakes though, look round rear wheels (frontside) for rot.
