Whats sells and what doesnt?

hello all,

Just a bit of a random topic but i would like to hear people views and opinions and share possible past experiences.

Basically, i'm curious as to colours in which mk1 golfs (including cabriolets) came in and how that affects the price of buying and selling a mk1.

I remember back when i was looking at buying my first golf, couldnt help noticing that certain colours just didnt seem to sell  :dontknow:

For example: Helious blue golfs - they would be going cheaper than other colours even though the general condition of the car would be the same of that of any other coloured golf.
I have also noticed this with White golfs  :dontknow:  looks lovely when clean.

i would understand if it wasnt an original VW colour but they are and I.M.O Helious blue gives a lovely multi tone colour to a classic car.

I think white ones are beautiful but they are pretty rare now. Shame.

there are tonnes of red ones. which does my head in as i dont want anothe rred car but when nearly every mk1 for sale is red theres not much choice

Condition is more important than colour. However, there's some colours which are clearly more desirable and some which are less. Also it depends how modern the car is, some of the undesirable colours eg on a late convertible, are desirable on an early hatchback (eg yellow, green).

i'v got a white clipper, wasnt looking for white one didnt really matter wot colour but the one i bought happened to be white, now i love it wouldnt change the colour for any other now white was one of the popular colours for the clipper to be made in but i think over the years they,v been sprayed into after market colours none VW colours and i think its prob cause white is hard to keep clean and any rust or stone chips stand out a mile away so was prob why alot of them did get resprayed other colours, mines clean i polish it every wk so it keeps on top of it

We looked into this in quite a lot of depth, at one of our regional meets. The conclusion was that black cars are ever so slightly faster, than red cars.

its funny you say that out of a load of mk1's owned 2 were very fast ones and funnily enough they were black. 8)

I've also heard cars which are faster are usualy red and yellow.
I.E Sports cars: ferrari's lamborghini and Punto sport  

something about the actual paint in that colour being lighter in weight?!  (i could be wrong)

but then doesnt every colour have its bad point?
Red - fades and becomes pink
yellow - you get followed by bugs/wasps etc
black - gets dusty and dirty quicker

…and the list goes on.

i am aware its all down to personal likes and dislikes when buying a car, but sometimes it seems like there might be more to it.

like some of you have said, white is a lovely colour for a cabriolet and yes they are getting rarer. But people are still respraying them in some non vw colours.
